Originally selected by the
Atlanta Falcons in the seventh round (223rd selection overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft.
College Career
Participating in his first 26 games as a reserve with the Georgia Bulldogs, DJ Shockley took over the quarterback helm, starting his final eleven contests. DJ completed 153-of-277 passes (55.2%) for 2,311 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior, giving him 3,278 yards and 31 scoring strikes among his 220-of-410 career passes. His 3,278 yards rank tenth on the school's career-record passing list and his 31 career touchdowns rank seventh in school annals. His 2,301 yards passing as a senior and was rank fourth on Georgia's season-record list.
2005
- Named first team All-Southeastern Conference the Associated Press and second-team by the SEC Coaches.
- Division-I semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy, given to a top college football player who has at least a 3.0 grade point average and has completed significant community service.
- Finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which is given to the nation's top senior collegiate quarterback.
- Semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, which is given annually to the collegiate Player of the Year.
- One of eleven players named to the AFCA National Good Works Team for outstanding contributions in community service. Elected by his teammates as permanent team captain of the 2005 Bulldogs.
- Named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, Cingular Wireless/ABC Sports All- America Player of the Week and The Sporting News Player of the Week vs. Boise State.
- Chosen MVP of the SEC Championship Game vs. Louisiana State.
- Part of a class that earned 44 victories--most by any senior class in Georgia history.
- Started every game, ranking fourth on the school's season-record list with 2,311 yards passing, completing 153 of 277 passes (55.2%) with 21 touchdowns and only five interceptions.
- His 21 scoring strikes rank third on Georgia's annual record list.
2004
- Member of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll.
- Completed 26-of-60 passes (43.3%) for 464 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in ten games behind starter David Greene.
- Added 113 yards on 24 carries (4.3 avg).
2003
- Had a solid preseason, pressing David Greene for the starting job, but was relegated to reserve duty in six contests before a torn meniscus in his left knee vs. Tennessee would force him to miss eight games.
- Finished with 9 of 21 passes (42.9%) for 88 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
- Carried 16 times for 101 yards (6.3 avg) and a score.
2002
- Played in ten games as a reserve quarterback.
- Completed 32 of 52 passes (61.5%) for 415 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions.
- Carried 36 times for 115 yards (3.2 avg) and a pair of scores. Also had a 4-yard reception.
High School
- Attended North Clayton (College Park, Ga.) High School, playing football for head coach Don Shockley (D.J.'s father).
- Earned second-team USA Today All-USA honors in 2000.
- Member of Parade and Super Prep's All-American squads and was also rated the top quarterback in the country by Super Prep, who afforded him with Elite 50 accolades.
- Earned spots on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Super Southern 100, Top 50 in Georgia, Marvelous Metro Eleven and Class AAAAA All-State teams.
- The 2000 Georgia Sports Writers Association Class AAAAA All-State quarterback threw for 1,861 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior, as well as rushing for 864 yards and eight more scores.
- During his junior season, gained 1,352 aerial yards with 17 touchdowns and added 733 yards on the ground with nine scores.
- Three-year starter in football. Also excelled in baseball, basketball and track.
